Do you choose wisely what goes inside you?

“The food you eat can either be the safest and most powerful form of medicine, or the slowest form of poison”

You may want to think twice when we ask you, “Do you choose wisely what you put inside you?”Everyone’s mind tends to think and answer “Yes” when it comes to making wise decisions about our health after hearing this question. You have to think again about this. The fresh vegetables and fruits that we order or opt for on a daily basis are often fresh, but are they healthy?

Do you know how long those have been fresh and why?

Here comes the point which we are going to discuss in this blog.

Why and How these fruits, vegetables, spices, beverages, snacks, junk foods remain fresh for such a long time? When it comes to our health and family we always run toward the healthy and organic things because we know what is really good for us. Do we really know? Yes, of course, being a mother, father, family member, caregiver we are way too much concerned about us and our family and their health. So, we always choose the best for them.

But many people are shying away from foods with less-than-natural ingredients because of a substance or a chemical that is added to many products such as beverages, sweets, baked-goods, breads and many more these days. These can also be commonly found in vegetables, fruits and tinned foods.

We are talking about Preservatives and how an excessive consumption of these could lead to long term health issues. Preservatives are typically used to, you guessed it right, ‘preserve’ food items. This helps increase the shelf-life of products and makes sure that there is no loss of taste or flavour in the product over a period of time. The levels of food preservation have reached an all-new level. To preserve the taste, freshness, and color of the foods, even fresh fruits and vegetables are loaded with chemicals and preservatives. Taking into consideration the increased use of chemicals and preservatives, it is extremely important to avoid junk food. However, when it comes to fresh fruits and vegetables, it is impossible to avoid them considering their dietary significance. This is the reason why it is extremely important to wash fruits and vegetables in the right way using a vegetable and fruit cleaner. To help you understand the side effects of preservatives, in this blog we discuss the diseases caused by the excessive use of preservatives.

While discussing about something I came across the thing that people are willingly choosing substitutes for things very easily without knowing the drawbacks about. If it shows off its benefits and is cheaper to market people won’t think twice about buying it. The same thing happened when we told them the benefits of DWA Herbal Water. The person said, I have some tulsi drops at home. I will add 2 drops of it and drink it. I said, ” yeah, sure!”.!! He might be right at his place because nobody would tell him that the tulsi drops he is having are added with preservatives. So I thought Let’s write about this so that at least the people who are not aware of this might read this blog and get some idea. At least in the future, they might ask or read about the amount of preservatives added to the product before buying it.

Let’s check what these preservatives can do to your body?

  1. One of the possible harmful effects of preservatives could be a trigger for breathing problems like asthma, bronchitis.
  2. Preservatives can cause problems in young children like hyperactive behaviour. This problem is also measured by parental and objective reporting.
  3. Sustained and excessive consumption of artificial preservatives can weaken heart tissues which is dangerous especially for aged people.

4.They could contain BHA and BHT food additives which could be cancer causing. BHT is used in cereals and fats while BHA  could be present in potatoes, meats and other baked goods.

  1. Preservatives could cause obesity in some as they contain fatty acids especially in processed foods.

Avoiding Preservatives: cutting preservatives completely from your diet is difficult but reducing isn’t. One should try to intake less preservatives as it causes chronic health conditions. One can incorporate fresh fruits, vegetables, juices, fresh lean meats and low fat dairy in your diet rather than switching to too many packaged food items. Lastly, read the labels on the products carefully before buying food items for you and your family. More often than not, a quick glance should help you figure out if the item is fit for consumption by your family or not.
